Dua to Extinguish Anger and Its Virtues
Introduction
Anger is a natural human emotion, but when it goes beyond limits, it can lead to sin and harm. The
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught us several practical and spiritual ways to control anger, one of which
is supplication (dua).
Dua to Extinguish Anger
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي، وَأَذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قَلْبِي، وَأَجِرْنِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Transliteration: Allahummaghfir li dhanbi, wa adhhib ghaiza qalbi, wa ajirni
minash-shaytanir-rajeem.
Translation: "O Allah! Forgive my sins, remove the anger from my heart, and protect
me from the accursed Shaytan."
Virtues and Benefits
- Softening the Heart: This dua helps in extinguishing anger and brings peace to
the heart.
- Spiritual Protection: Shaytan tries to mislead people through anger, but this
supplication protects from his whispers.
- Forgiveness and Mercy: Seeking Allah’s forgiveness in moments of anger brings
relief and reduces frustration.
- Following the Sunnah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The strong person is not the one
who defeats others in wrestling, but the one who controls himself when angry." (Bukhari &
Muslim)
Other Ways to Control Anger
- Performing Wudu: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Anger comes from Shaytan, and Shaytan
was created from fire. So when one of you gets angry, he should perform ablution (wudu)." (Abu
Dawood)
- Remaining Silent: Staying quiet in anger prevents conflicts and unnecessary
disputes.
- Changing Position: If standing, sit down; if sitting, lie down. This simple act
helps in calming down quickly.

This dua is not only a means to extinguish anger but also a key to living a peaceful life. We should
strive to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) and make these supplications a part of our daily
